The Story

How a Business Collapse and Family Crisis Led Me to Wisdom—and the Birth of The Proverbs 12X Advantage

“The hand of the diligent maketh rich…” — Proverbs 10:4

From Fast Growth to a Hard Fall

In my 20s, I built my first real business.

We started with less than $8,000 in capital.

Within one year, we had crossed $1,000,000 in revenue. We were growing fast, opening multiple locations, gaining attention—and making a real impact.

But we were moving faster than we were maturing.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but we were violating Proverbs 10:4.

“He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.”

We weren’t being slack in hustle. We were slack in structure, discipline, and financial stewardship.

We weren’t measuring costs properly. We ignored wise counsel.
And eventually, it all collapsed.

In our third year, we had to shut the business down—leaving both my partner and I over $100,000 in personal debt.

That would’ve been enough to break most men.

But within two to three weeks, something even more devastating happened:
My wife at the time—Deborah—was diagnosed with cancer.

It was the first of seven or eight battles she would face with cancer over the next 20 years.

And we would walk through it as a family—raising our children, building new ventures, carrying ministry, and seeking wisdom daily.

Why Proverbs Became My Lifeline

I didn’t run to business books.

I didn’t chase motivational content.

I ran to the Book of Proverbs—desperate for clarity, stability, and divine insight.

And in the middle of failure, financial stress, and family crisis, God met me through one verse:

“He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” — Proverbs 10:4

That verse didn’t just explain what happened to my business.
It exposed how my approach to life was violating the very wisdom I claimed to believe.

It was that moment of brokenness and surrender that became the birthplace of The Proverbs 12X Advantage.

From Proverbs 10:4 to Proverbs 4:7

A few months later, my focus shifted to Proverbs 4:7.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

That verse became my life verse, the compass for everything I would do going forward.

I started reading one chapter of Proverbs every day.

Then every month.

And I didn’t stop.

I’ve now read the book of Proverbs 350 to 400 times—always from the King James Version.

It became my filter, my guide, my leadership manual—for life, business, parenting, ministry, and marriage.

And most importantly, it gave me something no strategy ever could: perspective.

From Crisis to Calling

As cancer returned to our lives again and again, I learned the value of:

  • Prayer for wisdom
  • Godly counsel
  • Good decision-making under pressure
  • And the peace that comes from doing things God’s way

What began as a desperate pursuit turned into a calling to help others pursue wisdom before their lives collapse—not after.

And that’s what led to The Proverbs 12X Advantage.

Why 4:7 Is In the Logo (And In Everything I Build)

4:7 is more than a verse. It’s the foundation of my life.

It means:

  1. Wisdom is the principal thing. Period.
Everything else flows from it. That includes success, leadership, influence, marriage, parenting, and peace.
  1. The Numbers Themselves Mean Something Too:
  • 4 represents foundation, structure, the created order (4 seasons, 4 corners of the earth)
  • 7 symbolizes divine completion, spiritual perfection (7 days of creation, 7 spirits of God)

Together, 4:7 represents the foundation and completion of a life built on God’s wisdom.

It’s not just in the logo. It’s the thread running through the blog, the Proverbs 12X book series, the Skool community, the YouTube channel, and everything I do.

Final Word

You don’t need to crash your life to finally start listening to God.
But if you’ve already hit a wall—there is still hope.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” — Proverbs 4:7

That’s how this all started for me.
And that’s where it can begin for you.
